Aeronautical Meteorological Services

Tanzania Meteorological Authority is determined to provide quality aeronautical meteorological products and services that meet customer requirements and which comply with the statutes and regulations in place. The Aeronautical meteorological services issues by TMA are ISO certified

TMA provides services at different stages of aircraft operations such as take-off, cruising and landing stage also flight planning stage. The products and services provided are to enable smooth operations of the aircrafts.

Products and services provided by TMA at different airports in United Republic of Tanzania are as follows

  1. Meteorological Routine Aviation Weather Report (METAR) is provided to facilitate smooth landing and Takeoff of Aircrafts
  2. Meteorological Special Aviation Weather Report. (SPECI) is also facilitates smooth landing and Takeoff but outside routine observations during occurrence or clearance of hazardous weather.
  3. Terminal Aerodrome Forecast (TAF); important for flight planning
  4. Significant Meteorological Information (SIGMET) is important product as it facilitates safety of aircraft operations within a designated Flight Information Region.
  5. Flight documentation; The Meteorological Office at airport provides flight documentation for all flights departing at specific airport.
  6. Air Report: A report from an aircraft in flight, also known as air-report (AIREP), prepared in conformity with requirements for position, and operational and/or meteorological reporting.
  7. Aerodrome Warnings and alerts: Is the warning information issued by the aerodrome meteorological office concerning meteorological conditions which could adversely affect aircraft on the ground, including parked aircraft, and the aerodrome facilities and services
  8. Wind Shear Warnings; This warning is issued immediately whenever wind shear is observed or expected at the vicinity of aerodrome which adversely affect aircraft during approach and take off stage 
  9.  Search and Rescue (SAR): Meteorological information play important role to the search team and air rescue centers
  10. Meteorological Briefing: It is intended to supply the latest available information on existing and expected meteorological conditions along the route to be flown, at the aerodrome of intended landing, alternate aerodromes and other aerodromes as relevant, with inclusion of met.
