In recent years the World Meteorological Organization Education and Training Programme
has developed a new approach to the classification of meteorological and hydrological
personnel, more appropriate to the needs of the present century. This simpler and more
flexible new classification scheme puts more emphasis on job competency requirements,
treats meteorological disciplines and sub-disciplines in a much simpler and structured
approach and emphasises the concept of continuing professional development, lifelong
learning culture and learning organisation.
Courses at the Centre are conducted by adhering to World Meteorological Organisation
Guidelines for the Education and Training of Personnel in Meteorology and Operational
Hydrology. They include guidance aiming at assisting educators in designing and
implementing programmes for human resources development, also facilitates common
understanding and a certain degree of uniformity and stability in an international context.
Currently the Centre conducts a one year course which aims at preparing Basic
