MODE OF CONDUCTING COURSES AND OBJECTIVE OF ASSESSMENT
Courses are conducted on a modular basis and by adhering to World Meteorological Organization Guidelines for the Education and Training of personnel in meteorology and Operational hydrology.
In both core and fundamental modules, the programme enhances a wide range of study methods and approaches. These include lectures, discussions, small group discussions, case studies, role plays, tutorials, assignments, practical training including demonstrations and study tours.
Since, NACTE has a mandate to facilitate the review of traditional curriculum (according to WMO guidelines) currently being used by Meteorological technicians training centre, Kigoma. The old curriculum is under review to suit NACTE format.
NACTE has set qualification standards for the training of meteorology that are to be adopted by meteorological training centre, Kigoma, from which the curriculum is being developed.
Using NACTE guidelines, National Meteorological Training Centre (NMTC), Kigoma, is currently developing a competence- based Meteorological Technicians (mid-level) training curriculum in meteorology and related fields. The programme is modular in structure, in semester and leads to a certificate in meteorology.
The objective of assessment is to set a comprehensive system of measuring the achievement of the learning outcomes. It provides a yardstick for which the expected outcomes and benchmarking items are evaluated. This aspect has two major components, one for measuring performance and achievement while the other is for evaluating the achievement of the goal as well as ascertaining whether the teaching and learning processes are efficiently and adequately attained.
